Nabeel Khan born on September 2, 1999 in New Delhi, India is a Sarangi player, composer and a singer-songwriter. He is the eighth generation of Sarangi artists in his family and is the world's youngest established Sarangi player. Khan is the grandson of the legendary Sarangi Maestro Padma Bhushan awardee, Ustad Sabri Khan Saheb and the son of renowned Sarangi artist Ustad Nasir Khan.Nabeel Khan belongs to the much-revered Moradabad Sainia Gharana of Sarangi players.
This Gharana traces its musical roots from Mian Tansen, the great vocalist in the court of Mughal Emperor Akbar.
Pioneering Achievements
Instrumental in introducing the Sarangi across diverse genres in countries including India, the United Kingdom, Italy, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Germany, Sweden, Switzerland, Russia, Denmark, Poland, Sri Lanka, Norway, Spain, Portugal and France.
During school years Nabeel's highlight performances were at the Kamani Auditorium, Delhi,NCPA Mumbai, Ravindra Bharti Auditorium, Hyderabad, Embassy of India ( Moscow, Abu Dhabi, Oslo) and Nobel Peace Centre in Oslo. In India, he began his musical journey by giving Sarangi performances in many Spic Macay concerts. As a Sarangi prodigy, Nabeel displayed his talent on national television via Rajya Sabha channel at the age of thirteen and on Lok Sabha TV. He has performed Sarangi solo in Naad Bhed, Doordarsan the national television channel of India, He has performed in the classical music festival in Italy, Oslo Mela Festival in Norway, Jazz Music in Festival Denmark, Yoga Festival in Sweden, Classical Baithaks in Germany, The Music Room in Paris, BRICS Summit in Russia, Candlelight Concerts and Dubai Culture Festivals in UAE, Sama International choral festival 2023 in Sri Lanka, Red Sea International Film Festival in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Classical baithaks in Qatar, Oman, Switzerland and Sarangi Legacy concerts the UK thus far. The United Kingdom tour 2023-24 performances took place in London, Birmingam, Bristol, Leicester, Coventry, Liverpool, Manchester, and Leeds. He along with his father Ustad Nasir Khan came up with the first and the only academy in the world which officially promotes Indian classical culture along with Sarangi called Sarangi Cultural Academy. It is situated in New Delhi. Nabeel Khan has been the first Indian Classical musician to give Sarangi recitals of varied genres four times in UAE's Theater of Digital Art (TODA) and Candlelight Concerts by Fever at Zabeel theatre in Dubai, Etihad Arena in Yas Island, Abu Dhabi. He has also performed the first ever Indian Classical Sarangi recital for the Embassy of India, Abu Dhabi and BAPS Hindu Mandir, Abu Dhabi. He has also performed for Louvre Museum, Salt camp, Abu Dhabi. Sikka Arts festival 2023 2024, Emirates LitFest 2024 Dubai, Dubai Culture events, Red Sea International Film Festival 2023 in Jeddah, KSA, BRICS Summit 2024 in Russia,Emirates Loves India festival at Zabeel Park, Dubai as the first Indian classical musician. For the last two years, Nabeel has been working extensively on mental health Sarangi healing sessions worldwide through therapeutic specific ragas to soothe and heal people. He has been immensely successful in spreading the joy of being in unison with music through his melodies. He has pioneered introducing Sarangi into the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and continues to be the first and only Sarangi player in the UAE who received Golden residency as an Indian Sarangi player. Also invited by the IIFA 2024 in Abu Dhabi. Khan has been accompanied by great artists like Pt Anindo Chatterjee, Ustad Fazal Qureshi ji, Ustad Dildar Hussain Khan and many more. Nabeel Khan was born on 2 September 1999 in New Delhi, India. He belongs to a traditional family of Moradabad Sainia Gharana of Sarangi players. This Gharana traces its musical roots from Mian Tansen, the great vocalist in the court of Mughal Emperor Akbar. Alongside education he was soon initiated into the rare art of the instrument Sarangi. Growing up in a family of great Sarangi players, Khan grasped the techniques of Sarangi swiftly under the tutelage of his grandfather and soon emerged as a Sarangi prodigy. Nabeel started learning Sarangi at the tender age of seven in 2007 from his grandfather The Great Ustad Sabri Khan saheb. Khan's Indian Classical Music training spans for more than a period of 15 years. After the demise of his grandfather in 2015, he continues to take his musical training under the aegis of his father Ustad Nasir Khan who is a renowned Sarangi artist and uncle Ustad Kamal Sabri. Nabeel gave his first stage performance in Little Theatre Group, New Delhi when he was just eight years old. He gave his first international performance at the age of fifteen in Oslo Mela Festival of Oslo Norway, succeeding performance at the Embassy of India in Moscow, Russia under the guidance of his teacher and uncle Ustad Kamal Sabri in 2015. Khan studied in Universal Public School, Delhi and graduated from Zakir Husain Delhi College, University of Delhi in 2021 and also has a Sangeet Prabhakar degree in Sarangi from Prayag Sangeet Samiti. He won many state and national music competitions in his school time and in university as well.
The UK and Europe tour 2024 covered performances in Leeds Summer Solstice Festival 2024 organised by South Asian Arts UK. He has performed at the Union Chapel London, St. George’s Chapel in Bristol organised by Qalandar Arts UK, The Nehru Centre London, BAPS Temple London, Coventry & Leicester. Also performed at Music Room Paris, Olsemagle Church in Denmark, Classical baithaks in Manchester, Liverpool, Copenhagen, Oslo, Sweden, Kent, Berlin, Zurich, London, Birmingham.
